Company Profile

TECHCERAM is based near Shipley, West Yorkshire in the UK and was formed in September 1996, following six years of research and development work.

TECHCERAM has developed and patented a unique flame spray process to manufacture alumina ceramic base layers, which subsequently have Vita Alpha™ dental porcelain applied to make dental restorations such as crowns, onlays, inlays and veneers. This technology replaces the metal base layers which have been used traditionally.

TECHCERAM is ISO9001:2000 and ISO13485:2003 accredited and is committed to product innovation and customer service. TECHCERAM has its own in-house dental laboratory, TTC Ltd which has full DAMAS accreditation.

TTC uses the patented flame spray technology to manufacture the coloured alumina base layers for single unit restorations eg. crown, onlays, inlays and veneers. TTC also uses CAD/CAM technology from Degudent and 3MESPE to manufacture coloured zirconia substructures for multiple unit restoration eg. bridges.

TTC now supplies over 200 dental laboratories in the UK and Ireland with ceramic substructures which are then processed with the application of dental porcelains to produce the final all-ceramic dental restorations.

Dr Phil Evans gained a PhD from Leeds University for work on alumina-zirconia ceramic material in 1984. Following post-doctoral work in Japan on a Royal Society Scholarship, he returned to the UK and contributed to the development of flame sprayed alumina ceramics for single unit dental restorations. Dr Evans has been technical director of Techceram and TTC Ltd. and UK British Standards Institute (BSI) expert for dental ceramics since 1996.
